In the Smolensk oblast more than 1 650 enterprises of different ownership type are engaged in the sphere of consumer services, more than 7200 specialists work in it. In 2005 the volume of consumer services made up 670.8 mln. Rubles.

Transport, communications housing and utilities services account for 82.7% in the total structure of chargeable services to population in 2005. One third of the domestic and personal services structure is formed by housing repair services and vehicles technical maintenance. These services are increasing most dynamically. Leading companies working in the sphere of consumer services are the CRR "Smolenskregionteploenergo" and OJC "Smolenskregiongaz".
