The reserve Talashkino is at a distance of 18 km from Smolensk. In XIX–XX centuries a famouse patron of the arts, collectioner and artist M.K. Tenesheva created the Art centre, which became well-known in Europe. Such artists as I.E. Repin, M.A. Vrubel, composer I.F. Stravinskij and F.I. Shaljapin worked in the eastate. A big period of life of Talashkino's history is connected with the name of N.K. Rerih. One of his most monumental creations – Mosaic «Spas Nerukotvornij», made above the portal of the Church of the Holy Ghost, was reserved up to now.
